A map tells you where a place is. A historical story gives you a reason to visit. Odysseya brings the two together so you can choose a smaller, more meaningful area to explore.
The app currently covers Macedonia, in present-day North Macedonia. Use its interactive timeline, place map and free keyword search on iPhone, Android or the web. Start with one city or area, then connect what you read with the places you want to see.
Before you set out: this is a discovery guide, not a fixed tour or a booking service. Check current opening hours, admission, access and transport with the site or operator. The places below are in Odysseya’s public map catalog, checked on 2 October 2026.
Choose an area to explore
Skopje: a city walk with context
Look up the Old Bazaar, Kale Fortress and Stone Bridge. Read each place’s story before you choose a walking route. Keeping your first exploration in one city leaves more time to notice its streets and compare the places you visit.
Use the map to locate the Church of St. John at Kaneo and Samuel’s Fortress. Read the place descriptions, choose a main sight and leave room for a lakeside break. Review the walking distance and terrain before treating separate pins as an easy walk.
Find Heraclea Lyncestis in the archive and on the map. Make it the anchor for your day, then decide how much time remains for the surrounding area. A single main sight gives you a clearer starting point than a long list of destinations.
Search for a place name such as Ohrid, Skopje, Stobi or Heraclea. Compare the place description with matching historical events, then browse the surrounding period on the timeline. A place can connect with more than one era; use those connections to decide which stories interest you.
The timeline is for exploring historical context. It is not a promise that every surviving site, route or attraction is open to visitors. Follow the source links where provided, and separate historical context from current visitor information.
Explore beyond the city
The map also includes Matka Canyon, Stobi and Kokino Observatory. Treat these as alternatives for separate outings. Check the map, your starting point and the time available before combining destinations.
Choose one place you most want to visit and build the day around it. Add food or another stop only after accounting for travel, the time at your main sight and your return journey. The day-trip planning guide explains how to turn that shortlist into a workable day.
Find places near you
With location permission, Odysseya’s nearby discovery shows places around your position. You can also explore manually on the map. Read the place details and look at the distance before making a detour. A nearby pin is a useful lead, not a guarantee about access or opening hours.
What can I explore for free?
Browsing the timeline, maps and keyword search does not require a subscription. Structured trip planning and Surprise me are available with a confirmed free account. Odysseya Premium adds custom text and refinement chips after a day has been plotted. More countries are planned; the currently available country is Macedonia.
